REMEMBER (1-3)

  • “Reminder of sins year by year”

    • sins —> reminder of sins’ constancy

      • Knew they would have to sacrifice again because they would sin again

      • Prevented man from access to God

      • Required death for forgiveness

    • “Shadow” —> pale, indistinct

      • Reminded them they needed a perfect sacrifice

      • “every form” —> exact replica

      • Why would we ever choose the shadow instead of the reality?

RECOGNIZE HIS PERFECT SACRIFICE

  • Surrender is better than sacrifice

    • Surrender that comes from recognizing the need

    • (v5) Not desired sacrifice; not taken pleasure in sacrifice

  • Substance replaces shadow (v8-9)

    • Isaiah 53:4-5

      • substance” —> the sacrifice of Jesus

    • His suffering brings about our sanctification (v10)

    • Done; Once for ALL

    • One sacrifice was sufficient for all

  • Only His blood

    • Removes sin

    • Removes sin forever (v12)

      • “Sat down” —> it was finished

      • “once for all time” (v14)

      • “remember no more” (v17-18)
